Wigan Athletic is a relatively new club in England having been formed in 1932, which is pretty late when compared with the likes of other clubs in the Premier league that were formed in the late 1800′s. However, the achievements of Wigan Athletic are second to none as the club has made a remarkable rise through various levels of the football league to achieve their current status as a Premier league team. They won promotion from the championship in 2005 and have remained in the Premier league since then.
Dave Whelan is the current owner of the club and he is largely responsible for the current status of the club having spent quite a bit of money in getting the team to the Premier league. In his honour, the club’s stadium is being called as the DW Stadium and it has a seating capacity of just over 25,000.
