Stoke City is the oldest member of the Barclays Premier league right now and it is the second most old football team in the entire world, second only to Notts County. The club was founded in 1863 and little has changed since then. Even though the club has won the football league trophy twice, the victory over Chelsea in the league cup final in 1972 still ranks as the single biggest achievement by the club in its long history.

Even though Stoke city is one of the oldest teams, it has not taken part in the top flight of English football for a number of years and this current spell in the Premier league happened in 2008 after a gap of more than 20 years. The early 1970s represented one of the best eras of the club and it was during that time that the club even enjoyed European football.
