It can be said that Manchester city can be considered one of the underachieving clubs in the history of English football having spent most of their time in the top flight. The late 1990s were one of the worst times for the club having been relegated to the third division in the 98-99 seasons. However, they have recovered and now with their newfound riches, they are quite capable of challenging for the top honours. The club share an intense rivalry with crosstown club Manchester United. The period from 1960s to the 1970s were one of the richest in the clubs history having won a number of trophies during that time.
